MFA authenticator app for tableau cloud

Set up an MFA Authenticator App for Tableau Cloud

Trust and security are our top priorities at XeoMatrix. Over the past several months, Tableau may have provided you with information about the multi-factor authentication requirement (MFA) for Tableau Cloud. We want to ensure you are aware of the enforcement dates and the impact(s) this might have on your Tableau Cloud site and users.

The Tableau Cloud environment will begin enforcing multi-factor authentication for all site admins between October 10-28, 2022. For admins already using SSO or Tableau + MFA, you will not experience any disruption while logging in. For all other admins, you will be prompted to authenticate by setting up an MFA authenticator app before being able to access your Tableau Cloud site. Get more information on this enforcement, including how to set up MFA for your Tableau Cloud site.

Steps to Take Before MFA is Enforced

There are some use cases that are exempt from the MFA requirement. If any of the following scenarios apply to your Tableau Cloud site, please reach out to your XeoMatrix consultant to determine if MFA should not be enforced for your site.

Who is Exempt From the MFA Requirement

Those users that make Tableau Cloud visualizations available for consumers outside their immediate company or those that have external users who can access content in their Tableau Cloud site in a manner as permitted in their user guide.

Those who have command line tool (CLI) or REST API login scenarios.

Users that use a combination of trusted devices and trusted networks to satisfy the MFA requirement.
